Partial Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return

Exercise Concerns

After repair of partial anomalous pulmonary venous return, no exercise restrictions are usually necessary. Exceptions to this apply if there is breathlessness during exertion (dyspnea), pulmonary hypertension, arrhythmia, or stenosis (narrowing) of the reimplanted pulmonary vein.

Because these symptoms may develop over time, especially if surgery was performed later in life, the patient should be examined regularly by a cardiologist.

Anyone with congenital heart disease, repaired or non-repaired, should consult with their cardiologist about physical activity to review the risks.
